The South Okanagan Sailing Association (SOSA) is celebrating after securing lakeshore leases that will guarantee its future for the next 30 years.

Lease Process

The successful lease application was masterminded by Peter Hatcher, commodore of SOSA. Hatcher worked tirelessly, negotiating with the province and the municipality of Summerland. The group received widespread community support from MLA Dan Ashton, Summerland municipal council and the Penticton Indian Band.

Sailing Association Goals

SOSA has ambitious plans for the next three decades. The extended lease will enable the sailing club to continue to provide lessons and camps and to rebuild its dock, which was destroyed during the floods of 2017. The group is also planning to construct a new, wheelchair accessible dock, ensuring everyone has access to the water.

Sailstice Event

SOSA is gearing up for its annual Sailstice event, which takes place on Sunday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event encourages individuals, families and friends to get out on the water and experience the fun of sailing. Participants are encouraged to bring a life jacket, water shoes and a towel. Dogs are welcome to join in the fun on a leash.

Conclusion

The South Okanagan Sailing Association goes from strength to strength. With the secure lease in place, the group can continue to provide opportunities for individuals and families to experience the thrill of sailing. The club is grateful for the support it has received from the local community and is looking forward to a bright, successful future.
