America's Cup Trophy Tour Completes First Three Stops

The America’s Cup Trophy Tour Brings the Excitement of Sailing to Catalonia

The America’s Cup Trophy Tour has hit the ground running in Catalonia, successfully completing the first three stops in the charming towns of L’Escala, Palamós, and Vilassar de Mar. As the editor of an online recreation magazine, I am thrilled to report on this prestigious event that brings the world’s best sailors to the forefront.

Collaborating with Local Communities

The nautical clubs of each of the three localities pulled out all the stops to host the America’s Cup Trophy Tour. Working closely with America’s Cup Event (ACE), Emirates Team New Zealand, the municipalities, and the Generalitat of Catalonia, they collaborated to exhibit the trophy, highlight its rich history, and expand awareness about the upcoming competition, which is just under 60 days away.

The tour provided hundreds of residents and visitors to each town with a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of the competition firsthand. Visitors engaged in various activities in each place, ranging from regattas, gastronomic and cultural events, and even a social regatta in Vilassar de Mar.

L’escala: The First Stop

The Sea of Empúries in L’Escala was the setting for the first stop in the America’s Cup Trophy Tour, attracting numerous visitors from across Catalonia. The presentation of the official trophy took place at the famed Waiting Dock of Club Nàutic L’Escala, with nearly 80 sailors participating in the various activities hosted at the club’s sailing school throughout the day.

The exhibition at L’Escala was opened by some prominent personalities, including Narcís Carreras, President of Club Nàutic L’Escala; Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup; Joan Plana, Second Vice President of the Costa Brava Tourism Board; Anna Torrentà, Delegate of the Generalitat of Catalonia in Girona; and Josep Bofill, Mayor of L’Escala. Fans were awed by the oldest trophy in international sport, taking pictures, and learning more about the details of the 37th America’s Cup.

The immersive experience at L’Escala covered the competition’s history, boats, and the teams, providing visitors with a unique experience of the iconic competition. At the end of the day, everyone got to take part in a gastronomic tasting of local products from the region.

Palamós: The Second Stop

The Baix Empordà region also took part in the Trophy Tour, with an incredible regatta exhibition in Palamós by the regatta team of Club Nàutic Costa Brava – Vela Palamós. During the trophy’s stop, participants engaged with various personalities, including Miquel Aviño, Vice President of the club; Natalia Via-Dufresne, former Olympic sailor and Head of Water Operations at America’s Cup Event (ACE) Barcelona; and the Mayor of Palamós, Lluís Puig, who spoke to the fans.

Vilassar de Mar: The Third Stop

The Maresme region was the third stop in the Trophy Tour where a social regatta was organized with the participation of several clubs in the region. The event was held in Vilassar de Mar, where visitors took part in various activities, including an exhibition of the Patí Català class, and a tasting of preserved foods from the area. The mayor of Vilassar de Mar, Laura Martínez Portell, also attended the event.

Next Stops on the Tour

The America’s Cup Trophy Tour will continue its journey across Catalonia, making stops in Sitges, Tarragona, and Cambrils, soon culminating in Barcelona. The Trophy Tour is sure to serve as a prelude to one of the world’s most toughest sporting competitions, the America’s Cup.

As a recreation editor, I’m confident that the Trophy Tour will continue to promote the values and history of the competition. The immersive experience the tour provides highlights the beauty of sailing and the strong sense of community that makes this such a prestigious competition. I’m eager to follow the upcoming stops and to see how each community welcomes this legendary event.
