Harvard Sailing Earns Top Honors at ICSA Postseason Awards
Harvard Sailing has made waves in the world of college sailing, collecting several 2024 ICSA postseason honors. The team’s top sailor and crew accolades were recognized, and eight of its athletes were awarded All-America recognition on Friday.
College Sailor of the Year
Harvard’s Kyle McGranahan was named the sport’s College Sailor of the Year, earning the prestigious title and securing the Everett Morris Memorial Trophy. McGranahan is the fourth Crimson sailor to take home the trophy, joining Ewell Potts IV ’04, Clayton Bischoff ’03, and Sean Doyle ’02. McGranahan helped Harvard finish in second place at the ICSA Open Team Racing National Championship before guiding the Crimson to victory at the ICSA Open Fleet Racing National Championship.
The Everett Morris Memorial Trophy
The Everett Morris Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the “Best Intercollegiate Sailor” and is awarded in honor of Morris; a world-renowned yachting journalist, editor, and a member of the Naval Academy’s FALES Committee.
Mitchell M. Brindley Crew of the Year
Senior classmate Mimi Marlo was voted as the Mitchell M. Brindley Crew of the Year, becoming just the second sailor to receive the award. Marlo was instrumental in Harvard’s runner-up effort at open team race nationals and title-winning effort at the national open fleet race regatta. Gwendolyn Donahue (Stanford), Sarah Moeder (Yale), and Yumi Yoshiyasu (Dartmouth) were also nominated for the coveted award.
The Mitchell M. Brindley Crew of the Year Award
The award was established in 2023 and is given each year to the most outstanding crew in college sailing. It is named after the Old Dominion All-America crew and 22-year president of College Sailing, Mitchell M. Brindley.
All-America Recipients
Harvard’s All-America recipients include Kyle McGranahan and sophomore Teddy Nicolosi, who landed on the Open Skipper list, with Robert Bragg (Dartmouth) and Colman Schofield (U.S. Coast Guard) garnering Open Skipper Honorable Mention accolades. Justin Kang and Nicole Moeder captured All-America honors in each of their first two seasons. The women’s team was represented by senior Jess Williams, who earned Honorable Mention honors for the fourth time in her career.
Open Skipper All-America
McGranahan and Nicolosi were recognized as Open Skipper All-Americans for their exceptional performance in the waters this season.
Open Skipper Honorable Mention All-America
Bragg and Schofield received honorable mention Open Skipper All-America status for their impressive performance in college sailing this year.
Crew All-America
Kang and Moeder were recognized as Crew All-Americans for their remarkable contribution to the Harvard sailing program.
Crew Honorable Mention All-America
Leehealey joined Marlo with Honorable Mention Crew All-America recognition on their first career appearances on the list.
Women’s Skipper All-America
Jess Williams was recognized for her exceptional performance in the women’s team and earned Women’s Skipper All-America Honors for the second time.
Women’s Skipper Honorable Mention All-America
Sarah Moeder received Women’s Skipper Honorable Mention All-America recognition on her debut on the list.
